PIERRE RAGUES AIMS FOR PODIUM IN NÜRBURGRING 6 HOURS

French racer Pierre Ragues will contest his third endurance event of the 2017 season as the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) moves onto Germany for round four.

The 5.148km Nürburgring circuit in the Eifel region will play host to 29 competitors across all four categories with Pierre and Signatech Alpine Matmut making up one of 11 LMP2 entries.

Pierre heads to Germany on the back of a very competitive performance in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which he claimed fourth place overall and third in class. It was a hard-fought podium that was awarded after the event following the post-race disqualification of another competitor.

Pierre will be looking to secure another podium in the Alpine A470 this weekend, at a venue where he finished third in class (GTE-Am) twelve months ago. The #35 Alpine A470 has proven to be a quick, reliable and competitive LMP2 car with a cohesive driver line-up featuring Pierre alongside Nelson Panciatici and André Negrão. There is no reason why the trio can’t replicate the sort of form that has seen them firmly at the front of the closely contested LMP2 class since their debut at the 6 Hours of Spa back in May.

Pierre will also be sporting a new Sparco helmet for the occasion, to commemorate the company’s 40th anniversary, a lighter, more comfortable product, which will feature his usual eye-catching colour scheme.

Pierre said: “It is fantastic already to be back racing after the busy but exciting Le Mans period. On reflection, I am really pleased with what we achieved at Le Mans. To have LMP2 podium on our list of achievements makes me really proud, even if, of course, it would have been even better to celebrate the result on the actual post-race podium. Still, it gives us plenty of motivation to score another top-three result at the Nürburgring. I have been working hard on the Ellip6 simulator in preparation for this race. It is a track I know well, and where I also registered a GTE-Am podium last season, so there is no reason why – along with Nelson, André and the entire Signatech Alpine Matmut team – we can’t fight at the front with the Alpine A470. I am also delighted to have a brand new helmet from Sparco, which is lighter and gives me greater comfort in the cockpit. All in all, I am looking forward to the 6 Hours of Nürburgring, and hope we can celebrate a great result.”
