PIERRE RAGUES REFLECTS ON POSITIVES AS 2017 WEC CAMPAIGN CONCLUDES

Pierre Ragues’ FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 campaign with Signatech Alpine Matmut will not continue onto the remaining overseas rounds on this season’s calendar.

The team will revert back to a one-car entry from the 6h Mexico in September, leaving Pierre to reflect on the positives from his three races in the #35 Alpine A470.

Despite only racing at Spa, Le Mans and the recent event at the Nürburgring, Pierre can look back on 2017 with satisfaction as he secured the second career LMP2 podium at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours back in June. The Frenchman will now assess his race options as he determines the next stage of his career.

QUICK Q+A WITH PIERRE RAGUES

Are you disappointed not to be continuing onto Mexico?
“Our programme was only scheduled up to Nürburgring. I was hoping to have the chance for a couple more events, so it is still disappointing. I am incredibly grateful to the Signatech Alpine Matmut team for the opportunity we’ve had this season. So, there are definitely mixed feelings.”

How would you summarise those three events at Spa, Le Mans and Nürburgring?
“On the whole, we have shown that our technical package was competitive; the car was clearly capable of podiums at each of those three events. We have had some misfortune at times, not least at Nürburgring, but our Le Mans podium result was a real highlight. Although we didn’t get to enjoy that moment of standing on the podium itself, to have been part of a milestone moment for the LMP2 class, to finish fourth overall and third in class, is a massive success.”

What’s next for you?
“After 11 years of being part of endurance racing, I know I have a lot more to give. I am staying on an Alpine contract so I will still be keeping a close eye on what’s happening in WEC, which is a truly fantastic series. We will also be looking at other Alpine projects. I am also hoping for some more competitive rallying, which is something I have established a real passion in recent years. For now, though, I would like to thank the Signatech Alpine Matmut team and Alpine for the chance to race this season, and to my personal partners for their unwavering support. The next chapter is only round the corner!”
